Capital Campaign

Every day, our state loses 277 acres of farm and forestland to development – an area the size of 120 big box stores.

As a result, the quality of life Piedmont citizens enjoy is imperiled by land conversion and poor stewardship of our resources. The steady shrinkage of our agricultural lands, forests and open spaces lead to wildlife imperiled by habitat destruction, waterways threatened by pollution and farming communities lost to the pressure of rising land costs.

Piedmont Land Conservancy is in its second capital campaign, Protecting the Nature of the Piedmont.

The board is committed to raising $3.2 million for land protection, land stewardship and education and outreach in our service area. Of our $3.2 million dollar goal, $2.2 million will fund direct land protection projects and increase the Conservancy’s Land Protection Revolving Fund. Increasing available funds will assure we can take quick action and protect larger properties when opportunities arise. The campaign will also provide $1 million for stewardship, education and outreach. Increasing the Conservancy’s stewardship endowments assures PLC will always have the resources to enforce easements and make sure protected lands stay that way – including Emily Allen’s Wildflower Garden, working farms across our area, Price Park in Greensboro and over 7,500 acres protecting the Mitchell River watershed.
